Product Research & Development and Patents
The increasing number of utility patents has created serious problems as far as the infringement rules are concerned. This will remain an issue in the future despite regulations pertaining re-registration of older or non-commercially viable patents. Inspite of this , there are over 500,000 patent applications filed at the US patent and trade mark office alone! Therefore ascertaining a new and successful design patent and assessing its commercial viability is important before one embarks on a time consuming and daunting task of filing and pursuing a patent through its search and examination stages before it being granted.
Dr. Meron Lavy (Mehran Moheban) has acquired years of experience in product development, from initial stages of design using solid works and other CADCAM/CIM methodology to prototyping using SLS and DMS techniques through final stages of mass production and launch.
He is continually implementing new ideas for innovative product design and has successfully filed many patents and developed new products from initial stage to production. He has also closely worked with Patents Attorneys to examine and test products to see any suspected infringements between similar products in the market. Dr. Lavy always welcomes suggestions and is willing to be consulted for new product developments and can assist projects from scratch to production level. Intellectual property rights are always taken very seriously and therefore signed documents can be prepared before disclosure of any new idea between the parties involved.
Amongst patents granted or pending are a flexible ramp for disabled wheelchair users that uses modules to form a platform and can negotiate contours and unevenness on the surface that it lays on; An intraoral prosthetic used by the laryngectomee patients to form comprehensible speech - this is a sophisticated miniature electro-mechanical device developed in collaboration with dental schools and speech therapists. A user privacy shield that fits over common PIN PAD terminals and restricts the viewing of the keypad to the user only; A unique sanitary door handle that minimizes cross contamination in high traffic public places such as washrooms - a breeding ground for bacteria and other contagious diseases.
He is a Director of Sanicle Ltd. It is important to note that in the fast pace and intolerant society that we presently live, due to misconception and sometimes self-interest and for convenience, people disregard the merits of the disabled whatever its nature may be. But, evidently, given the opportunity and the right environment to harness their skills and knowledge without prejudice, the disabled can perform the tasks with the same dedication, diligence and accuracy as the non-disabled if not even better. The employers are, for example, seeing the benefits of hiring gradutaes with autism because they have a unique talent for information technology, attention for detail and seeing patterns. Infact more and more employees are recognising the benifits of having a diverse workforce. There should be no discrimination in an educational establishment, with no double standards. The Disability and Equality Acts (for example in the UK see : UK Equality Act 2010 and the Disability Resource Centre) have made progress in removing the physical barriers but we still have some way to go in removing the more difficult and damaging attitudinal barriers. The aim of the Company is to develop and produce various innovative patented electro-mechanical devices to enhance the quality of every day life with particular emphasis on environmental issues.
